The right venue is usually the one that suits the number of people and the character of the person, in that order.
Things to check before you book
- Realistic capacity, including standing room and space for wheelchairs and walkers
- Parking, and whether older guests can get from the car to the door easily
- Sound system and whether it can play your music and a microphone reliably
- Screen or projector if you want photographs or video
- A separate space for family before and after the service
- Catering — on site, brought in, or moving somewhere else afterwards
Outdoors
A garden, a beach or a farm paddock can be the most fitting place of all, and it needs a plan B. Wind ruins sound before it ruins anything else, so a portable PA and a wet-weather alternative are not optional in Canterbury.
